I am so proud of CW for not only her cool fashion sense, but her awesome reading skills! Keep reading everyone!!! Back by popular demand: Battle of the Books in March! Have you read a really good book (published in the last two years) that you want to enter in our contest? Then fill out this online form. The beautiful young woman pictured in this photo is Helen Keller who was born on this day in 1880. The story of her relationship with her teacher, Annie Sullivan who helped her gain the ability to communicate was chronicled in the film and play, The Miracle Worker. You can find copies of the film as well as books about Helen Keller at the Capital Area District Library. Go today and learn about Helen Keller's amazing achievements. [Photo and text courtesy of NYPL] Helen Keller quote: " I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do." I told my students that if they wrote to their favorite author that he/she would write back. What can I say? I'm a dreamer...
...and sometimes dreams come true. This letter with the mustache hand drawn by Mr. Angleberger in reference to his book, "Fake Mustache"? Yes! This cool letter was received by one of our 6th graders this week. Whew! Our faith in authors, books, reading, and our place in the whole cosmic universe is reaffirmed! Tom Angleberger: you are one classy writer, artist, and human being. Thank you! Mrs Gnagi captured the attention of 120 6th graders this week sharing her well crafted ghost stories of Holt and Michigan. Mrs Gnagi, thanks for giving us the heebie geebies!
Miss S, our 5th grade Art Teacher, helped decorate the library for May. Miss S created a jungle themed bulletin board to highlight the 2013 Newbery winner "The one and only Ivan". Great book to start reading today!
